Third International Palaeontological Congress (IPC3)

10. Geomicrobiology at critical periods of Earth History
Keynote speaker: Roger Summons
Organiser: Xie Shucheng

By exploring the interactions between microbes and environments/fauna through earth history, the global paleoenvironmental change in association with biotic radiation, extinction and evolution at critical periods of the Earth may be better understood. This symposium brings together expertise from multiple disciplines, including paleobiology, biogeochemistry, geomicrobiology and life sciences to study geomicrobiological processes at critical geological periods, including Mesoproterozoic, Neoproterozoic, S/O, F/F, T/P, J/T, N/K and Quaternary. The insights from integration of diverse perspectives will promote further development of geobiology. The topics will include Proterozoic geomicrobiology, geomicrobiology during Phanerozoic biotic crises, and geomicrobiology and Quaternary global change.
