Third International Palaeontological Congress (IPC3)

12. Chemosynthetic communities: palaeoecology, systematics and evolutionary history
Keynote speaker: Joern Peckmann
Organiser: Cris Little

This symposium will be a forum for researchers to explore the latest work on chemosynthetic communities (hydrothermal vents, hydrocarbon seeps and sunken dead whales, plesiosaurs and wood). These communities are important as the energy that drives them is geochemical (sulphides and/or methane) and their evolutionary history is likely to be different to the majority of other marine communities. The scope of the symposium is intended to cover large scale macroevolutionary patterns as well as more detailed palaeoecological and systematic works.
