Documenting the speed of evolutionary change is a perpetual subject of interest. 'Evolutionary rates' can mean many things, such as rate of diversification, rate of lineage splitting, or rate of extinction. Rate of morphological character change has received less attention, but the continuing focus on large phylogenetic datasets presents an unprecedented source of data for documenting morphological change over time. This symposium will focus on morphological rates: rates of discrete character change, rates of body size evolution, and rates of morphometric shape change. Studying such rates, in conjunction with rates of diversification and morphological disparity curves, may provide key insights into large scale macroevolutionary patterns and major radiations.
